I find it so stressful voting, I'm scared I'll forget an artist I absolutely loved or something in the heat of the moment, as I probably did...
So, incase you didn't know, every year an Australian radio station called Triple J, allows their viewers to go online and vote for their 10 favourite musicians/songs of the year (that have been played on the radio station), this includes artists original songs as well as their live covers.
There is an enormous list of artists on the site which you can scroll through and pick your favourites (or search for your favourites in a search bar if you already know who you'll pick). This is actually quite daunting as their are hundreds of songs and musicians to choose from.
But alas, I did it, and I chose my 10 picks that I would like to see in the Triple J's Hottest 100 this year.
Here we go:
Lorde - Tennis Court
I never know with artists like this, what to vote for, you see her most popular song 'Royals' was there, which most viewers would vote for (I assume), but 'Tennis Court' is my favourite of her songs. So I never know whether to vote for the song that will most probably get the most votes (to therefore help the singer win), or to vote for my favourite song.
I think I am over thinking it...knowing me. So I voted for my favourite song.
Sticky Fingers - Australia Street
I'm about to completely contradict my previous statement...rats. Australia Street by Sticky Fingers, despite being a very good song, is not my favourite song by Sticky Fingers...'These Girls' is. Unfortunately, 'These Girls' wasn't one of the choices.
Anyway, despite that, I do think these guys deserve to be in the Hottest 100 so they therefore got my vote.
Haim - Falling
I love these girls. I love this song. I just love everything about them. So they got my vote, hands down.
Dune Rats - Red Light, Green Light
Although I haven't actually listened to this song in a while, I did listen to it a hell of a lot throughout the year, so for that reason I think it deserves to have one of my votes.
King Krule - Easy Easy
This is again my favourite song by King Krule. There's something in me that hates saying that purely because it is probaly his most popular song, but it is also genuinely my favourite. I would love to see an artist like King Krule in the Hottest 100 as he is very unusual. My fingers are crossed that he makes it.
FIDLAR - No Waves
Amazing band I was introduced to this year, I listened to their album so so much throughout 2013 and this song really reminds me of the year past. It's because of that, that is why it made it into my top 10.
Jake Bugg - Me and You
Jake Bugg had to be in here somewhere on the list. This is an odd song choice by me, but I do really really love it. I find it very different to a lot of his music, and I don't know what it was, but something really spoke to me about it. Really really deserves to have a place in the Hottest 100 in my personal opinion.
Lana Del Ray - Young and Beautiful
This is the most bizarre choice by me. I actually really surprised myself with this vote. But when I think about it, I do really adore this song. I really do think this will be in the Hottest 100, I don't really doubt that. It deserves its place there, it really does.
Vance Joy - Play with Fire
Pwoah, I really haven't listened to Vance joy in a hell of a long time. But this year there were a few months where he was close to the only thing I listened to. It's for this reason that I have given it a place in my top 100. I didn't vote for 'Riptide', despite loving the song because I do like 'Play with Fire' more, and also I think 'Riptide' will get the majority of votes, and probably get a spot in the Hottest 100.
Thelma Plum - Dollar
Ofcourse my Thelma Plum had to be in here. I absolutely love Thelma, and honestly, I would love to see her in the Hottest 100 more than almost any other artist, in my opinion she is so deserving of it. I was tempted to vote for 'Around Here', but I do really think that 'Dollar' is on the money...hahaha yesss.
So there we are, these were my choices for Triple J's Hottest 100 this year. The 100 most voted songs are played from number 100 to number 1 on Australia Day (26th January) on Triple J.
